VIN News is reporting some concerning news about Blue Buffalo Wilderness Diet Chicken Flavor; “veterinarians have revealed cases of hypercalcemia secondary to vitamin D toxicosis occuring in dogs…”

From VIN News Service:
Veterinarians report mysterious link between dog food and hypercalcemia

August 31, 2010
By: Jennifer Fiala
For: The VIN News Service

Veterinarians are trying to discern whether roughly a dozen dogs testing positive for hypercalcemia and consuming the same high-end diet is merely coincidence or a problem with the pet food in question.

The reports have cropped up on the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), an online community for the profession and parent of the VIN News Service. In message board discussions, veterinarians have revealed cases of hypercalcemia secondary to vitamin D toxicosis occurring in dogs that eat a single brand of dry pet food: Blue Buffalo Wilderness Diet, chicken flavor. In each of the cases, veterinarians report that dogs’ conditions have improved after switching brands.

So far, nothing concrete has identified a causal relationship between the food and illnesses in dogs. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), while reportedly alerted to adverse events tied to the food, has not prompted a recall, though the VIN News Service has been unable to reach officials with the regulatory agency directly.

Officials with Wilton, Conn.-based Blue Buffalo report that “tens of thousands of dollars” and hundreds of hours have been spent analyzing various batches of dog food, including samples from bags directly linked to specific cases of dogs testing positive for hypercalcemia and vitamin D toxicity.

Come on everyone, time to wake up and smell something rotten about processed pet foods!

How cool is this? I never in my wildest dreams thought that there would ever be a national day to celebrate and focus on holistic pet care – we’ve come a long way baby!

National Holistic Pet Day was founded by Colleen Paige of Animal Miracle Foundation. When asked what sparked the designating of this wonderful little holiday, Colleen replied: “I want people to understand that with the already short life spans our pets have, they need a fighting chance these days to live as long as they were meant to. Pet owners really need to start looking at their pet’s diet, lifestyle and environment. I want to ensure that I have done my best to bring about public awareness of the need for a healthy lifestyle with our pets. I don’t blame myself for Tinkerbelle’s death, but now that she has died from cancer – I know I could have done better. I don’t want anyone else to have to feel how I feel…wondering if I could have prevented it.”

Holistic/Natural health is all about HEALTH, not disease – it is a preventative life style that embraces the WHOLE animal .

For those of you who are still not sure what “holistic health” means, it is a wellness approach that addresses the “whole” animal – body, mind and spirit or the physical, emotional/mental and spiritual aspects of an individual. Hopefully this is a lifestyle you will embrace with your pet before there are any signs of illness or disease – it truly is a way of life that prevents disease in the first place. Instead of focusing on the symptom or the dis-ease and trying to suppress the symptoms, the root cause of the disease found out and then eliminated by the bodies own immune system with the support of natural modalities such as a raw diet, proper exercise, the elimination of toxins in, on and around the pet and when needed – herbs, essential oils, etc.

Nutrition is the cornerstone of “holistic health” – a proper species appropriate diet and how it effects the body in turn effects the mind as well. If you do nothing more than get your dog off of processed, kibble and/or canned food; that is a great way to begin your journey into holistic health for your beloved pet!

If you would like some suggestions and support on improving your dog’s diet and overall health, you can set up a consultation with Dr. Jeannie HERE

As a veterinary naturopath and animal nutritionist, one of my passions, is through education, to help expose and eliminate the unholy alliance between pet food companies and veterinarians.

Everyone needs to be aware that it is the multi-billion dollar Pet food companies that fund and control veterinary education, research, and practice, putting out the lies to keep our carnivorous pets on a harmful, cooked/processed starchy diet that they have NOT evolved to eat! Keeping our beloved companions just a little bit sick. Yes the animals survive while eating this non- species appropriate, dead, void of true nutrition junk but the can never thrive while doing so.

Does anyone beside me find it very interesting that
the Delta Society, now that they have Purina Pet Food Executive Brenda Bax (who, by the way, has applied for a patent that seems to control any corporation working with Animal Welfare Organizations) sitting on the Delta Society Board of Directors has banned raw fed pets from participating in visitations while being a member of the Delta Society?
http://thewholedog.org/wholedognews/?p=530

Th majority of pet food recalls this summer have been of processed/kibble and canned foods because they feared contamination with Salmonella. The Delta Society says they are concerned about raw fed pets spreading salmonella to the patients and people they visit. Really?? Funny thing – there appears to be more risk of salmonella contamination in cooked/kibble diets then raw meat and bones for our pets. Is anyone else out there smelling something fishy? Putting two and two together here?

Food Recalls for the Summer of 2010:

This summer has seen its share of pet food and supplement recalls:

In early June, Procter and Gamble voluntarily recalled of Iams ProActive Health canned Cat and Kitten Food – all varieties of 3 oz & 5.5 oz cans as a precautionary measure. Diagnostic testing indicated that the product may contain insufficient levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1), which is essential for cats. Date on Bottom of Can: 09/2011 to 06/2012.

In mid-June, Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc., of Pacoima, CA, announced a voluntary recall of Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog Food with the “Best By” date of June 17, 2011, in 5-lb. and 28-lb. bags because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Consumers are urged to return bags to the place of purchase for a full refund. A separate letter and instructions will be forwarded to all relevant Natural Balance customers.

Later in June, United Pet Group voluntarily recalled all unexpired lots of its Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin Supplement tablets for Dogs due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to contact United Pet Group or the place of purchase for further direction.

On July 1st, Feline’s Pride announced a voluntary recall of Feline’s Pride Raw food with ground bone for cats and kittens, Natural Chicken Formula, Net Wt. 2.5 lbs. (1.13 kg., 40 oz.) produced on 6/10/10, because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. In late July, the company announced that they were adding their Cornish Hen formula manufactured in the June to the recall.

On July 3rd, Merrick recalled one lot of 10-ounce bags of Beef Fillet Squares for Dogs because the dog treats could be contaminated with salmonella.

On July 25th, Procter & Gamble voluntarily recalled two specific lots of its prescription renal dry cat food as a precautionary measure, as it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. The products in the recall are Iams Veterinary Formulas Feline Renal 5.5 lbs with the lot code 01384174B4 with UPC code 0 19014 21405 1 and lot code 01384174B2 with UPC code 0 19014 21405 1.

On July 30th, Procter & Gamble voluntarily expanded its recall to include still more veterinary and some specialized dry pet food as a precautionary measure because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. The products in this expanded recall are all dry sizes and varieties of
Dry Dog and Cat or select Eukanuba products. “P&G Pet Care wanted to make sure veterinarians were aware of the situation as soon as possible to help them address any of their client concerns.”

These products are made in a single, specialized facility.
As a precautionary measure, P&G suspended operations at this facility and recalled all dry pet food products manufactured at this plant, which included:

Iams Veterinary Dry Formulas All dry sizes and varieties01Jul10 – 01Dec11All UPC Codes

Eukanuba Naturally Wild All dry sizes and varieties01Jul10 – 01Dec11All UPC Codes

Eukanuba PureAll dry sizes and varieties01Jul10 – 01Dec11All UPC Codes

Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin All dry sizes 01Jul10 – 01Dec11All UPC Codes.

If you are still feeding kibble and/or canned food but have thought about switching your dog to a raw diet, please do your homework and have a consultation with a veterinary naturopath or TRUE holistic veterinarian to help you do it properly. It is not rocket science but it is more then just giving your dog a lump of raw hamburger. Please see my <a href=http://www.thewholedog.org/consult.html">consultation information page at The Whole Dog.Org

PACOIMA, Calif., June 18 /PRNewswire/ — Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc., of Pacoima, CA, announces a voluntary recall of Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog Food with the “Best By” date of June 17, 2011, in 5-lb. and 28-lb. bags because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

No illnesses have been reported to date. The recall notification is being issued out of an abundance of caution based on an isolated instance in which a product sample with a “Best By” date of June 17, 2011, had a positive result for Salmonella in a random sample test conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This product was originally manufactured on December 17, 2009, and is the only Natural Balance product being recalled.

Consumers who have purchased Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog formula with the “Best By” date of June 17, 2011, are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
So when will all the recalls end? When will there be a SAFE dog food available for our dogs?

It is time to wake up and face the facts. Kibble or processed/canned food will NEVER be safe and actually has a far higher risk of causing salmonella poisoning to your dogs then a raw meat and bone diet does. WHAT? Yes folks it is true! Dogs are carnivores – http://www.thewholedog.org/artcarnivores.com they have been wonderfully designed to eat raw meat and bones, digest them and assimilate optimal nutrition from them!

Dogs are absolutely identical internally to wolves and have been designed to be so efficient at eating a raw meat and bone diet that it is almost impossible for a healthy dog to ever contract salmonella Poisoning

I hope I have caused you to do some serious thinking and some research here, our dogs deserve to be treated with the utmost respect and love, the best way to do this is to feed them a species appropriate raw diet.

If you are interested in switching your dog to a raw diet but are still a bit fearful and have questions or need help, I would love to work with you via a consultation.

Vaccinations and How They Disrupt the Immune System
Patricia Jordan DVM, VND

www.dr-jordan.com

There is historical evidence that the Chinese were the first to attempt the theory of vaccination during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).1 This procedure was called virolation and was first used with small pox crusts as snuff to blow up the nostrils of people they hoped to affect. Virolation by the Chinese predates the small pox work of Edward Jenner, Farmer Jesty and Lady Montague by five centuries.2 The Chinese discontinued the attempts at vaccination as they discovered the process did not help and actually made conditions worse for the patient. How intelligent this deduction was back in that period of time. The Chinese from the medical perspective saw the vaccine as a pathogen and invoked the Divergent Meridians to take the pathogen and translocate it to the interior of the body. In order to do this, to make the pathogen latent, the body had to expend its resources, Yuan Qi and Yin-Jing which is dense and heavy and kept the pathogen dormant (which the body does in the joints/bones/marrow).
.
The problems in babies and in animals of all ages that are receiving a continuous yearly load of pathogen impact via vaccines, is that the Yuan Qi and Jing should not be disturbed at these young stages of development and thereafter so frequently in life. The additional problems of a poor diet , the use of excessive drugs like antibiotics and resultant Qi depletion is an overall lack of capability to maintain dormancy of the pathogens.
When overwhelmed with vaccinations in addition, these mechanisms leave the individual vulnerable. With so many resources being allocated to deal with the vaccines, what is left of the Vital Force to handle the vicissitudes of daily living? Poor nutrition and environmental toxins and chemicals along with the synthetic use of drugs all tax and handicap the body, so that the bodies are coming into immune compromise and depletion much too quickly.
.
The vaccines themselves stimulate adverse reactions causing disease, disability, organ failure, cancer, autoimmune disease and sometimes death. The number of dog vaccines has grown from 4 administered only once or twice in a lifetime to 20 and often aggressively administered twice a year! The intent of this commentary is to introduce to the reader to just a few pathways of immunopathology resulting from vaccine administration. When dealing with a patient exhibiting any clinical signs, remember to obtain vaccine administration history and remember that the ancient Chinese were indeed able to link the correlation of vaccination to the disharmonies of health that followed.
.
In lectures I have attended by veterinary vaccine researchers such as Drs. Ron Schultz, Richard Ford, Jean Dodd and Dennis Macy, the pathways to pathology from vaccination have been clearly associated. The only vaccine that Dr. Ron Schultz is still advocating is the 3 way vaccine for the three lethal viruses, distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus (and the rabies until we get the laws changed).3 For the cat, the only lethal virus he advocates vaccination for is the feline distemper. Dr. Schultz lays out the pathology that follows cats vaccinated with herpes virus or calicivirus vaccines if administered by injection. He also advises that these vaccines against the lethal viruses are only necessary once in a lifetime to a mature mammalian immune system in order to result in genetic imprinting, incorporation of the viral proteins into the genome to affect pathogen sensitization of the patient’s immune cells. Additional administration just increases the adverse events and vaccine induced disease. Lymphoma is now understood to result from chronic B cell stimulation, chronic stimulation by antigen, vaccines result in antigenic stimulation, adjuvant ensures the chronic stimulation.4
.
The rabies virus vaccine is full of its own problems with autoimmune disease production and adverse events such as ascending paralysis and encephalitis which have occurred since Pasteur first started grinding up infected spinal cords and injecting them into subjects.5 There is evidence from as far back as 1954, published, and 1945, unpublished, that only one rabies vaccine injected into the mature body of a mammalian immune system is capable of sensitizing the patient for life against the rabies virus.6 Other work followed in the 1970’s. Research to confirm this is currently being performed by Dr. Schultz and his group as the vaccine manufacturers are not releasing their data that establishes this fact.7 There was a study done in France on cats and dogs vaccinated against rabies that showed that animals were still resisting a rabies viral challenge 5 years after vaccination.8 As well there are human cases where the rabies vaccine amnestic response has been effective for 14 years.9
.
Humans have pathogen recognition of small pox for 92 years after vaccination. Once thought to be 50 years in duration and even less when they first started the procedure of vaccine administration, it is now well understood that most viral vaccines give pathogen recognition for the entire life of the patient.10 My clinical experience is that this amnestic can also be passed vertically from one generation to the next, why not, it is genetic incorporation we are talking about. Dr. Ron Schultz and Dr. Jean Dodd are on record that only one or two rabies vaccines will be sufficient for the life of the animal and are both working with the Rabies Challenge Fund to establish the scientific criteria necessary to change the laws regarding rabies vaccination in this country.
.
In 1972 the American Veterinary Medical Association first recommended vaccinating yearly, despite the decades of successful use of vaccines administered only in the first year of life. Representatives from the drug manufacturers and several regulatory representatives were the ones whom advised the AVMA to institute a change to yearly vaccine recommendations, not active small animal practitioners and not immunologists.11 The AVMA enacted this radical change despite the clear acknowledgement that yearly vaccines were not necessary and that the current practice of only administering pediatric vaccines had been enough to successfully control infectious disease. What has resulted from this unscientific and non evidence based procedure of vaccination administration? Dr. Ron Schultz now sees autoimmune diseases in animals that previously did not exhibit this. Our farmed fishes that we now vaccinate due to the stress and disease that follow intensive farming practices are now being diagnosed with autoimmune diseases.12 The AVMA appointed Feline Vaccine Associated Sarcoma Task Force has a decade of research showing the vaccine induced cancers and not just in the feline species, not just at the injection site and not just sarcomas. The unparalleled rise of chronic degenerative diseases, cancer, allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, disability and deaths is illustrated in the following graphs using the increased rate of vaccination on humans 13
.
Following is an incomplete list of adverse events and diseases that follow vaccination. After 25 years of being in the veterinary field, this list presented in 2007 at Warwick, Rhode Island is the first time in my veterinary career that any veterinary medical researcher has presented this information to veterinary professionals. (Schultz) Common Reactions included; lethargy, hair loss, hair color change at injection site (cutaneous vasculitis), fever, soreness, stiffness, refusal to eat, conjunctivitis, sneezing, and oral ulcers. Moderate reactions included; immunosuppression, behavioral changes, vitiligo, weight loss (cachexia), reduced milk production, lameness, granulomas/abscesses, hives, facial edema, atopy, respiratory disease and allergic uveitis (blue eye). Severe reactions triggered by vaccines included; vaccine injection site sarcomas, anaphylaxis, arthritis, polyarthritis, hypertrophy osteodystrophy, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, immune mediated thrombocytopenia, hemolytic disease of the newborn (neonatal isoerythrolysis), thyroiditis and glomerulonephritis. Disease or enhanced disease which with the vaccine was designed to prevent included; myocarditis, post vaccinal encephalitis or polyneuritis, seizures, abortion, congenital anomalies, embryonic/fetal death and infertility. Dr. Ron Schultz is one record with the statement that anytime you inject you could potentially kill the patient and to assume vaccination is safe is a serious misrepresentation of the facts.14 The AVMA is now on record with this caution not to assume the safety of vaccinations.
.
From these post vaccinal reactions, it can be understood that vaccination is not an “innocuous” procedure and that the risk versus the benefit of vaccination must be reviewed. For more information on vaccine induced disease, review the United State’s Federal Registry of adverse vaccine events in humans and the reported adverse events that follow vaccination reported through VAERS. The factual link of vaccination to damage is the reason the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Compensation Act was made into law. Adverse events from vaccinations are grossly unreported in both human and veterinary medicine and the lack of a central independent site for registering vaccine adverse events leaves the veterinary medical professional at a serious advantage and unable to collect even an informed consent or full disclosure statement prior to the procedure. 15 The AVMA is on record with the statement that the canine immune system is not different from the mammalian immune system and thus the reporting of vaccine induced diseases in human medicine and research is relevant to what we see in practice. Oncology Diplomate Dr. Dennis Macy is a supporter of the Veterinary Vaccine Injury Compensation Act that would address vaccine injury from veterinary vaccines even though the only lawfully mandated vaccine for animals is the rabies vaccine. Since the suggestion that a single vaccination against only the lethal viruses was necessary by leading veterinary infectious disease experts, the author has studied what science did know about vaccine induced immunopathology and found the reasons to support a position of not causing disease in my patients through the additional vaccinations protocols still much too prevalent today.
.
The following is a brief overview of some of the pathophysiology produced by vaccination reported in the scientific literature: the different ingredients in the vaccines, aluminum and mercury are linked to immune dysregulation as are the viruses, the mutators and carcinogens in the vaccines. The big moment of epiphany for the author was the reaction that the antigen in vaccines does much to dysregulate the immune system by the very interaction with immune cells leading to autoantibody production, autoimmune disease, loss of tolerance, immune mediated pathology, all four forms (type I-IV) of immune system reactions, oxidative damage, chronic inflammation, cancer, to even speeding up the aging process (Selye’s Disease)
.
1. Lymphocyte suppression from canine polyvalent vaccines in dogs and in chickens with the avian pneumovirus vaccine. 16
2. Post vaccinal lesions of the nervous system and the role of the autoimmune process of pathogenesis. 17
3. Immune mediated glomerulonephritis, amyloidosis, uveitis, polyarthritis, non-regenerative anemia, renal organ failure and hepatic organ failure, auto-inflammatory syndrome, immune mediated inflammatory neuropathies, autoimmune encephalomyelitis, Gullian Barre Syndrome (post infectious auto-immune disease) Common Immune Deficiency, ischemic dermatopathologies (cutaneous vasculitis), post injection site granuloma, necrotizing panniculitis, vaccine induced type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, pericarditis, myocarditis, dilated cardiomyelopathy, acute coronary events, vaccine induced enhancement of viral infection, aberrant viral pathogenesis, IgE class switching and behavioral changes of increased anxiety, increased aggression and increased compulsive obsessive disorder.18
4. Molecular mimicry (example of how measles in MWR vaccine is able to cause SSPE subacute sclerosing panencephalitis which is autism), distemper and molecular mimicry leading to myelin sheath autoimmune inflammation, neuropathy, cognitive dysfunction, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathies, and thimerasol in vaccines altering the function of the dendritic cells in antigen presentation 19
5. Particularities of the vasculature which promotes organ specificity of autoimmune disease. 20
6. Histamine dysregulation up or down as a result of vaccinations. 21
7. Inflammatory arthritis and intractable chronic arthritis. 22
8. Immune mediated thyroiditis 23
9. Thymic depletion 24
10. Autoimmunity, loss of tolerance 25
11. Vascular induction of mini-strokes, blood stasis 26
12. T cell suppression allowing co-infections with bacteria, viruses, fungus, yeast and parasites (intestinal and dermatophyte)27
13. Immunodeficiency (this imparts the necessity to NOT vaccinate in any situation the cats that are Felv or FIV positive and the necessity of knowing the immune status before any stressful immunosuppressive actions taken against them (e.g. anesthesia, spay, neuter). Vaccinating immunosupressed individuals increases adverse events and expression of the very infections they are being vaccinated against. This holds true for the patients undergoing chemotherapy and other immune suppressing medications e.g. cyclosporine (Atopica) prescribed for over reactive immune systems up regulated from damage associated with earlier vaccine administration.28
14. Cytokine cascade promotion and onset of inflammatory cascade 29
.
The above list is not comprehensive as that would be beyond the scope of this commentary due to space limitations, it is however the outline of a second book on vaccine damage by this author. There is voluminous evidence for the association of cancer with vaccines and the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the World Health Organization have clearly established the information that adjuvant in vaccines are Grade 3 out of 4 carcinogens, with Grade 4 being the most likely to induce cancer.30 Dr. Rich Ford has stated that the adjuvant aluminum in the vaccines is one culprit in mutating our genome and specifically the P53 oncogene thereby ruining the individual’s ability to stop tumor genesis.31 The smoking gun proof of this is the presence of the blue grey aluminum foreign body retrieved from biopsy specimens of vaccinated individuals. The vaccines are causing cancer formation not just in cats but also dogs and ferrets and not just at the injection site of a vaccine. The fact that these very same vaccine ingredients are the same carcinogens in the childhood vaccines mandated by our government in the national childhood vaccine program is of serious concern. The rise in childhood brain cancer is the most highly associated vaccine administered cancer in children and this is of certain consequence to the current vaccines and vaccination protocols32
.
It is understood now, that vaccination is not the same as immunization, that production of antibody is not the same as immunity and to the vaccinologists out there Dr. Ron Schultz states “this is an indefensible practice”.33 Since 1978 veterinary vaccine research authorities have been advising against yearly vaccinations.34 Vaccination has never been linked to any science or evidence based medicine but only to precedence and since 1978 to the generation of income.35 The problem with the veterinarians over-vaccinating is now causing public health problems. Emory University’s Rollins’ School of Public Health has a published a paper on how human illness is associated with use of veterinary vaccines.36 Others, like Dr. Traavik, Biosafety Officer for the country of Norway, are alerting us to the dangers of the recombinant vaccine technology, the use of chimera viruses that are transferring disease to man.37 Dr. Michael Fox has been concerned about the impact of the unregulated and uncontrolled use of these genetically engineered viruses in vaccines and the future this plaque is bringing upon mankind.38
.
My research into the number of rabies vaccines recently recalled and the hundreds of thousands of human rabies vaccines recalled in the past for “failure to inactivate the rabies virus” are very disconcerting as is the recall of rabies vaccines due to unauthorized inclusion of human DNA in the vaccines. Vaccines do not enjoy any science of benefit and were never shown historically to even affect the level of infectious diseases. John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health includes this information on their website. How far do we have to continue to keep ourselves immunized against the fact that the very act of vaccination is what is causing disease in this westernized world?
.
Vaccination is an obstacle to cure; vaccination is the induction into a cycle of disease and disease management that is in every way a violation of the AVMA 1969 Veterinary Oath, in every way including public health and animal welfare.
.
The use of TCVM will not be able to successfully restore health to our patients if vaccinations are allowed to continue to corrupt the patient’s immune system. Blood stasis, Qi depletion, Liver Yin Deficiency and Blood Deficiency will always be the root of disease while vaccinations remain the non-evidence based medical procedure that is the hallmark of conventional medicine. The body’s Qi will try to imprison these toxins and poisons in the joints bone and marrow, but the body with continual bombardment will be quickly depleted. Our patients deserve to have us conform to our duties spoken in the Veterinary Oath and our obligation to stay current with the advancements of scientific research. In my opinion, vaccination is not science based, nor evidence based medicine, but rather the risky business fulfilled by corporations able to control the licensing and the distribution, administration and promotion even the mandate by law of this poisoning of the blood. The Chinese were correct in the age of the Song Dynasty, the Dynasty associated with both Emperor’s Song and the people’s technological advancements. The ancient Chinese were able to abandon a practice that proved ineffective and proved an impediment to restoring health. This is an example where old medicine is new again and once again a gift to the world from the people of China.

The Horrific Results of Allowing The Unnecessary Vaccination of Companion Animals to Continue

The veterinarian that put this together asked to not have their name linked to this because: “The dogs tell their own story and the history of malpractice belongs to a vet, whom isn’t pointed out but there are plenty others doing the same thing!”

Something very difficult needs to be done to bring the facts directly to the front seat of the companion owning public about what is happening as a result of allowing the unregulated malpractice of over vaccination. This is even worse than just ethical violations. Hundreds of thousands of humans are loosing their companion animals from the callous disregard of advocating for the unscientific and unsafe and unnecessary vaccine administration.

The first dog was vaccinated every single year even when experiencing blood in the urine and a 21 pound weight loss, received vaccines at the same time on chemotherapy to attempt to down regulate and over reactive humoral immune system from all the damn vaccines.
The dog was put on so many antibiotics, steroids and chemotherapy agents and still vaccinated. As the dog sickened the woman owner had to get another job in order to keep up with the drugs and veterinary visits used to try and “treat” the vaccine induced disease, the dysregulation of the immune system so that the dog was finally euthanized…..this is what happens every single day in vet clinics across the US as a result of over vaccination and suppression with drugs like antibiotics and chemotherapy agents. You can read some of the outrageous malpractice the vet in Massachusetts subjected that poor dog to.

Here is the summary of the above dogs records I had to look through when she presented in that state:

Togo was plenty vaccinated as a puppy receiving what we commonly refer to the ‘mumbo jumbo’ every month for three administrations. I will attach the article from Dr. Ron Schultz that states why the animals should not be subjected to mumbo jumbo, what Dr. Jean Dodds refers to as whombo combo (having multiple live and killed virus with bacterins, and mercury and adjuvants, along with preservatives, antibiotics, fungi stats all in the whombo combo. It is a very cheap and dirty form of bargain basement technology for making vaccines.

Many times Togo received the whombo combos with rabies which is the most reactive vaccine and also with Lyme vaccines. She was often administered steroids at the same time which is contra indicated, the vaccines are immunosuppressive and so are the steroids, so what was the thought process behind was attempted to be accomplished?

Dr. Ron Schultz has stated many times along with Dr. Richard Ford and others, they don’t like, they don’t recommend the Lepto vaccines. Dr. Ron Schultz states that the reactivity associated with the Lepto vaccine can make a patient very itchy for four years despite the fact that the vaccine is incapable of guarding the vaccinate against infection by Leptospira, Furthermore, if the dog was to develop a Leptospira infection to one of the serovars transmissible to man, the owner would be at greater risk of suffering a Leptospira infection because the dog was vaccinated!

It is obvious that the owner of the dog was never given Informed Consent to sign and Never given Full Disclosure of what these vaccines would do, neither that the vaccines are able to generate at the least 7 to 10 years of the immunity duration against the only real threats of distemper and parvovirus.

. Dr. Ron Schultz has proven this information and only recommends vaccination a one time at 15 weeks of age for dogs and to only distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus.

.It is proven that IgE hypersensitivity results and the animals has ability to suffer much greater allergies as a result of being vaccinated, I can send the studies that determine not only this but that the thyroid is suppressed as a result of vaccinations for at least 45 days following vaccination, along with immunosupression as a result of the vaccinations and the exhaustion of the multiple administered mumbo jumbo……well, real disease.

I see the vaccines administered in 98,99,02,03,04,05,06,07 and 08
WAY too much and always it appears in direct violation of the FDA requirements that the animal to be vaccinated is HEALTHY and not suffering DISEASE.

In 05 was vaccinated with disease and even given antibiotics at the same time. Rabies vaccines cause auto-immune disease, antibiotics cause auto-immune disease, and then we also have immunosupression at the same time!

In 07 again, vaccinated with disease, this time hematuria (blood in the urine) and GET THIS THE PATIENT WAS SUFFERING AN UNEXPLAINED 21 POUND WEIGHT LOSS!!

04/30/07 suffered weight loss and blood loss yet
05/01/07 platelets are low and are clumping which ‘could be immune mediated or inflammatory’
05/14/07 put on ASPIRIN
08/02/07 Increased the dose of aspirin and was on Cosequin concurrently, AND GET THIS given LONG ACTING IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE STEROIDS (contraindicated with aspirin, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory) and had antihistamines prescribed! No work up of the skin condition that has progressively worsened with every immune assault by this over administration of vaccines and every trip to the vet office. No thyroid testing despite the signs of thyroid disease. 04/18/07 labs do not show any T4 or any other thyroid parameter testing.

10/11/07 GAVE EVEN MORE $TEROIDS, long acting even stronger antibiotics, now CIPRO (remember antibiotics are suppressive and palliative in nature) also this is increasing the development of auto-immune disease.

11/11/07 MORE YES EVEN MORE>>>>> LONG ACTING IMMUNOSUPRESSIVE STEROIDS and both my injection and now by oral administration (Temeril=-P) an shot gun medicine combination product, more palliation and more suppression.

12/07/07 NOW ATOPICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENT WHICH IS DESTRUCTIVELY IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE and MORE CIPROFLXACILLIN and even MORE LONG ACTING STEROIDS IMMUNOSUPRESSION in the face of notes that tell all: ‘pyogranulamatuous inflamation’ INFECTION
12/15/07 ATOPICA
12/24/07 ATOPICA
3/31/08 patient gets ‘shot up with the whole slew of possible vaccines, including the mumbo jumbo and even at this time is noted to be ‘sick with fever, chronic dermatitis, crusts, scabs, pustules and guess what, GETS ANOTHER LONG LASTING IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE STEROID INJECTION. This was done despite the thyroid level was low and yet, not ADDRESSED! All FDA violations of administering vaccines to a very sick animal.

The second dog again was so immune dysregulated from year after year after year vaccines unnecessary and unsafe. The dog ended up with immune exhaustion, adrenal fatigue and as the immune system failed he could not keep the coccidia and yeast which are usually handled with the cell mediated immune system, this dog had a paralyzed cell mediated immune system, an atrophied mucosal immune system and a very much loved companion became unable to live. The owner an elderly man overwhelmed over the deep drop into disease of immune system dysregulation left his dog frail and stinking and unable to fight off the mildest infection. The owner was crying when he had to leave the dog to be euthanized…. Finally, a copy of the stupid ad in the Healthy Pet magazine and I am sure many others seducing the public into thinking they need these yearly vaccines……

What can we do to show these cases to those whom think they have the right to not protect the consumer from this needless and harmful over vaccination? The fact that they are not coming forward the AVMA, the AAHA and the WSAVA, the AVH…….what can we do?

Please re-post this and forward it and share it everywhere!

Thank you!

The big news that has a lot of dog owners talking and even up in arms right now (especially dog owners who feed a raw diet to their therapy dogs) is that the Delta Society put out a shocking statement regarding a new policy prohibiting animals fed raw meat or raw animal products from participating in their Pet Partners program. http://www.deltasociety.org/Page.aspx?pid=638

This policy was established because of “research indicating dogs fed raw meat are much more likely to be shedding harmful bacteria like Salmonella and drug resistant E. coli in their feces compared to dogs fed commercial or home cooked diets, and the fact that these dogs come into close and frequent contact with people that are more susceptible to infections and at increased risk having severe infections.” The Delta Society is large national charity that trains and registers therapy animals and organizes pet visitations to the sick and elderly.

Now, please let it be understood that their decision is based on (extremely limited) research showing pets consuming a raw meat diet could shed risky bacteria (in their feces). However, they have no evidence what so ever to prove that any pet fed a raw diet has ever sickened anyone, ever!

A fellow pet blogger pointed out that the answer as to how and why the Delta society could make such a policy, banning raw fed dogs and cats from being part of their program could very well lie on this page of the Delta Society website – the listing of Board of Directors… http://www.deltasociety.org/Page.aspx?pid=252

Listed there, as Secretary for the charity is Brenda Bax; Marketing Director, Purina.

So, you have to wonder, is it possible that Purina Pet Food influenced The Delta Society’s move to ban pets fed raw meat, Please read and consider the following letter sent to Delta Society from one educated person…

“Dear Delta Society,

While checking http://www.google.com to investigate your claims of raw protein causing a significant shed of pathogens in the dog’s stool, I found the largest amount of information on an internet search shows that dry dog food is the biggest offender of carrying salmonella contamination:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/dog-food-recalled-for-possible-salmonella-problem

http://health.usnews.com/health-news/family-health/articles/2008/05/15/salmonella-outbreak-linked-to-dry-dog-food.html?PageNr=2

One expert thinks contamination of pet food is likely to become more commonplace.

“There have been problems with pet foods before,” said Dr. Pascal James Imperato, chairman of the department of preventive medicine http://health.usnews.com/health-news/family-health/articles/2008/05/15/salmonella-outbreak-linked-to-dry-dog-food.html?PageNr=1

and community health at the State University of New York Downstate Medical
Center in New York City. “If the food had any animal product in it, there could have been contamination, or if it was being processed in a plant where they were also processing animal product, then contamination can easily occur,” he said. “There is greater industrialization of the production of food products, both for humans and animals, and these are complex processing systems. Therefore, there is greater opportunity for contamination,” Imperato said. “We are likely to see many more of these problems.”

Secondly, a large percentage of all dogs carry salmonella, regardless of diet. This has been known for some time:

http://fsrio.nal.usda.gov/document_fsheet.php?product_id=223

Animal-to-Human — Salmonella can be acquired directly from pets (e.g. cats and dogs), reptiles, and birds. The feces of pets, especially those with diarrhea, contain Salmonella and humans can become infected if they do not wash their hands after contact with pets or pet feces.15
http://fsrio.nal.usda.gov/document_fsheet.php?product_id=223#15 The pets may suffer Salmonellosis as a reverse zoonosis, with infection transmitted from human-to-pet and subsequently back to other humans. Salmonella can also be found in healthy dogs and cats at rates of up to 36 percent and 18 percent, respectively.52

http://fsrio.nal.usda.gov/document_fsheet.php?product_id=223#52

http://www.bravorawdiet.com/recallinfo.html#merck

Here’s what the Merck Veterinary Manual says about Salmonella in pets:

“Many dogs and cats are asymptomatic carriers of Salmonellae. Clinical disease is uncommon, but when it is seen, it is often associated with hospitalization, another infection or debilitating condition in adults, or exposure to large numbers of the bacteria in puppies and kittens.” 2

To translate: Many dogs and cats carry Salmonella in their systems (as evidenced by the presence of Salmonella in their feces), but they rarely become ill. It is just a natural part of what lives in their GI systems. When illness does occur it is usually associated with an already ill animal who is already immune-compromised. Illness may also occur when young animals
are exposed to very high numbers of the bacteria. This might happen if a puppy finds and licks the inside of an outdoor garbage can that has never been washed and is teeming with bacteria.

Research indicates that approximately 36 percent of healthy dogs and 17 percent of healthy cats carry Salmonella in their digestive tract.3 The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) agrees with these numbers.4 It is interesting to note that these numbers are based on kibble-fed dogs-which means that Salmonella is a natural part of life for our pets regardless of what they are eating.

The resistance to illness in dogs from Salmonella is apparent in a study of raw-fed dogs in Canada. In that study 16 dogs were deliberately fed commercial raw diets contaminated with Salmonella. None of those 16 dogs became ill. Additionally, only 7 of those 16 dogs shed Salmonella in their feces.5 While it was not further studied, one might speculate that the 9 dogs who ate Salmonella-contaminated food but did not shed it in their feces effectively neutralized the bacteria.

Even the FDA, in the FDA Consumer magazine, acknowledges that healthy pets rarely become ill from Salmonella contamination.6

It is also interesting to note that humans can transmit salmonella to dogs:

http://www.vetmed.wisc.edu/pbs/zoonoses/GIk9fel/salmonella.html

Dogs and cats may suffer salmonellosis as a “reverse zoonosis,” with infection transmitted from human-to-dog and subsequently back to other humans. Similarly, outbreaks of Salmonella infections in large animal teaching hospitals have been linked to the introduction of bacteria from infected human personnel, with subsequent spread to animals and then back to other human workers.

In one of the studies quoted on your website as part of your proof, in the first article only ten dogs were used to test for salmonella. The authors themselves state: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC339295/ Although these results are suggestive, they are not statistically significant owing to the small number of dogs studied. Larger numbers of dogs or multiple stool samples from each dog might have allowed the results to reach statistical significance. Unfortunately, the limited funding to this private clinic for this study did not allow for the inclusion of more study animals or multiple cultures from individual subjects.

And, in another study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1716752/
Since this study was an experimental trial with laboratory beagles, results may not be completely indicative of what would be experienced with owned dogs of various breeds. Determining that the raw food diet was the main source of salmonellae shedding in owned dogs would be more complicated, as they could be exposed to several other possible sources of salmonellae, including other animals; other food items, including treats; the environment; and their owners.

http://www.asph.org/vetmed/ppt/lefebvre.ppt

www.asph.org/vetmed/ppt/lefebvre.ppt
And information from your friends in Canada again. This is slide show that has been prepared to show the dangers of raw fed foods for therapy dogs. It was a great job of skewing the results. They show the high incidence of bacteria found in 40 raw fed dogs stools, but somehow tend to downplay the amounts found in dogs fed a dry diet. This study shows:

Raw fed dogs (40)
Dry food fed dogs (156)

0 – for Vanomycin resistant enterococci 1 – for
Vanomycin resistant enterococci

1 for Methicillin resistant S Aureus 8 – for
Methicillin resistant S Aureus

5 for Clostridium difficile 40 -
for Clostridium difficile

19 for Salmonella 12 -
for salmonella

31 for E Coli
32 – for E Coli

While this study may show more Salmonella and E Coli in raw fed dogs, it shows higher results for the bacteria Clostridium, Methicillin resistant S Aureus and has Vanomycin resistant enterococci. And the amount of Salmonella and E Coli, while not as high as raw fed dogs, is significant.

My conclusion is that, in your hurry to label the raw diet as the culprit, and eliminate its use from your volunteers in your program, you are only putting the spotlight on the issue that all dogs can carry pathogens regardless of diet . This could cause all dogs to be banned from use in any health facility. In essence, I see your new rule as ‘shooting yourself in the foot’. I feel in your confidence and your bias of proving a raw diet could spread pathogens, you forgot to do a full research on the issue. Salmonella is everywhere, including dry dog food, the soil, pond water and even from humans. Understand you are looking at narrow parameters that need a more careful and extensive study on how pathogens are spread and how to use sensible and effective prevention.

I don’t see a problem with allowing dogs into nursing homes, hospitals or hospices, as long as good hygiene is applied. That would include bathing the dogs, insuring therapy dogs are flea and tick free, making sure the dog’s are properly exercised (ie pottied) before a visit, and carrying sterilization equipment (bleach, bags and paper towels) in case of an accident. All research points out pathogens are spread by stool or saliva. That would mean not allowing the dogs to lick the clients, making sure the coats and skin are recently bathed and trusting your volunteers. Your volunteers are the backbone of your organization, and they do this loving volunteer work without compensation and give the Delta group thousands of volunteer hours. I hope you take this email in the light it was written, in that sometimes, we need to look at any situation with more study and thought, and understand the healing, joy and encouragement dogs give so many people. Being a patient with serious illness and being away from home often stifles recovery. Pets, as you know, bring hope, happiness and support to begin the process of healing.

I hope you rethink your position on this matter, and continue to allow your therapy dog work to bring joy to both your clients and your volunteers. My interest in researching this and writing to you is in memory to my Ch Blackwood Dante V Lyvngwerth CD and Ch Bourbon’s Bravo of Blackwood, two Rottweilers I owned who were the recipients of the American Rottweiler Club TRUE award, for their many hours of therapy work. And yes, they both were fed a raw diet. They both worked in the intensive care units of hospitals in Tyler, Texas, for many years.

Author of, “Raw and Natural Diets for Dogs”

So, could it be that this ban of raw meat pet food was initiated/motivated by board member Purina executive?

It does make you wonder doesn’t it?

This move also does have to make you wonder if other such bans or reverse endorsements (not an official pet food brand endorsement, but a back handed endorsement of commercial pet food in general) will be seen from other charities or pet organizations that accept large donations from Big Pet Food?

It sure makes me wonder if the multi-billion dollar Pet Food industry is now scrambling, possibly trying to hold on to their ever slacking control of the pet food market? After all, the more educated we pet owners become…the less pet foods we buy. This is a very exciting thought – that just maybe we are more headway in education on the benefits of a raw diet and natural health than we at first thought.

Auburn, CA to Consider BSL, Limit Law on May 24

The City of Auburn will consider numerous changes to its animal control code on May 24, including a mandatory spay/neuter of certain breeds and a 2-dog ownership limit for all breeds. The AKC encourages responsible dog owners in Auburn to contact the mayor and city council prior to the May 24 meeting and respectfully express your opposition to these proposals.

The AKC has numerous concerns with the proposed ordinance, including:

Ownership limit of 2 dogs per single-family home. Those who currently own more than 2 dogs may keep them, so long as they are licensed with the city prior to November 2010. However, this provision also states no more dogs may be kept “until the number of dogs falls below two.” The AKC opposes limit laws, which are arbitrary and do not address the issue of irresponsible dog ownership. Instead, the AKC supports strong enforcement of leash, nuisance, and other general animal control laws to ensure that all dog owners, regardless of the number of dogs they own, are held responsible for their animals. Click here to read more about the AKC’s position on animal limit laws.

Mandatory spay/neuter and breeding requirements for the following dogs defined as “pit bulls”:
Bull Terrier
Miniature Bull Terrier
American Pit Bull Terrier
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
American Staffordshire Terrier
Any dog that a “reasonable person” would believe to be one of these breeds
Any dog exhibiting the AKC or UKC breed standards for these breeds

Owners of these breeds must have any dog over 6 months of age sterilized unless the dog is in the city for less than 30 days, the breed identification is under review, or the dog is a “show dog”. An annual breeder license is available for “pit bull” owners, so long as the dog conforms to the AKC or UKC breed standard and has participated in a dog show within the past year. Among other regulations, those holding breeder licenses must also submit to inspections and only breed to AKC and UKC standards.

The AKC believes that any law seeking to regulate dangerous dogs should establish a fair process by which specific dogs are identified as “dangerous” based on stated, measurable actions; impose appropriate penalties on irresponsible dog owners; and establish a well-defined method for dealing with dogs proven to be dangerous. Interesting stuff? Frightening stuff?

My own personal belief about this is that these dogs immune systems are so shot and compromised that they can not work properly to keep these or any other “parasite” under control.

First of all, Heartworm meds such as the one pictured above are NOT preventatives, there are in fact toxic pesticides designed to kill the heart worm larvae in the blood before they can develop into adults and migrate to the heart and lungs.

For more information on Heartworms and true prevention, please read my article on Heartworm and natural prevention >>>> Here

I have been discussing my beliefs about heartworm and the immune system with Dr Patricia Jordan and I wanted to share her recent email and request to me in hopes of having those of you fitting the criteria write testimonials. Please read below and leave a comment or send me a private email if you can help.

I think we should get anyone who has testimonials from LA, MS Delta area or coastal NC,SC,GA,FL that doesn’t administer heartworm prevention and get what they do use. Also if they have the dogs tested yearly, or every two years and by what method. Funny, Arkansas now locked in with this story.

There are many states that the dogs don’t get heartworm prevention and then every day have positive dogs coming into their clinic. I wonder if these dogs were on heartworm prevention of if this group just used the reports from the Mississippi and LA Delta area and are being the rugs for business for their hospitals based on mongering the info from LA and MS.

“Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a Special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom.”
